FIGUERES: Lively town with a miltitude of shops, bars, restaurants and of course the world famous Dalí Museum (spectacular even from the outside). From Figueres you can get trains or buses to Girona and Barcelona. Market day is Thursday AM.

ROSES: For a small fee you can go inside the Ciutadella (old castle). Roses has a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants. It is from Roses that you can take a train tour all the way into Cap de Creus National Park. Or, you might want to go out on a glass bottom boat or on a boat trip round the secluded coves to Cadaques. Market day is Sunday AM.

EMPURIABRAVA: A lively tourist town built on reclaimed land (hire your own boat to tour around the canals). Shops, restaurants, bars, discos as well as a huge beach. Market is on Saturday AM.

SANT MARTÍ D’EMPURIES: Head through Sant Pere Pescador to find kms of beaches (especially popular with kite surfers). Sant Martí has a particularly beautiful beach and a quaint, pedestrian only village. There is a lovely coastal walk from here to l’Escala (a beautiful fishing village, specialising in sardines). This walk takes you past the entrance to the Roman ruins of Empuries (once the capital city of this area).

PORT DE LA SELVA: A stunning drive from the village of Vilajuiga up the mountain you can visit the monastry of Sant Pere de Rodes at the top and then drive down the other side to enjoy lunch on the seafront at Port de la Selva – stunning scenery!

PERELADA: Treat yourself to a visit to the amazing wine spar at Perelada Golf Course.

PALS: Worth a visit for its architecture and wonderful ceramicsç

GIRONA: A beautiful old city with a spectacular cathedral (fun fac, they filmed a season of Game of Thrones there). Don’t miss out on the old part of the city with its rabbit warren like streets, packed with shops, bars and restaurants. There is a small tourist “train” that can take you all around the city.

BARCELONA: You can drive or take a bus or train from Figueres or there are organised tours from Roses and Empuriabrava. Visit La Sagrada Família, audí’s Houses and Parc Güell. The shops are fantastic too! A walk down La Rambla is fascinating to see the streets entertainers.

PORT AVENTURA (the Warner Bros theme park): situated in Tarragona, about an hour south from Barcelona – https://www.portaventuraworld.com/en

FRANCE: Being so near to the French border you could visit Perpignan, Ceret (museum of modern art) and the delightful port of Colliure. You can get there by 3 routes – the NII, the motorway A7 or the coastal route from Port de la Selva.
